Clonakilty Single Malt Irish Whiskey - Cask Finish Series
Within the confines of an old bank in downtown Clonakilty, with its warehouses literally a stones throw away (~1.5 miles), Clonakilty produces small batch, "grass to glass" whiskey and gin.
Today, I'll be reviewing their Single Malt Irish Whiskey - Cask Finish Series (Finished in casks from Chateau La Cardonne), Batch 0001 - bottled at 46% abv.
Colour: Burnished Copper (Edinburgh Whisky Academy Colour Guide)
Nose: On first nosing, after a few minutes or so in my Glencairn, I was greeted with lovely floral sweet-like-honey-dew notes, with a touch of oakiness. Very reminiscent of those long, misty forest walks in the Irish hill.
Palate: Very pleasant, autumnal, warming, spicy cinnamon apple notes on the front of the palate. Mid palate had hints of soft, creamy vanilla oak, leading to a spicy culmination.
Finish: Medium, well-balanced, and creamy, with spices lingering on the palate.
Overall, this is a well-present whiskey, with all the autumn flavors harmonized and balanced for optimal enjoyment. Well worth picking up a bottle or two, if you came across it in you local liquor store.
Big thanks to all who contributed to this short review. I'll also be reviewing their Catoctia Creeks and Jack's Abby Collaboration expressions, so stayed tuned!
