Found North Cask Strength Rye Whiskey
This is not the first time I've been given the opportunity to review Found North Whiskey. First time around I had the pleasure of welcoming Nick Taylor, when he visited me at work, armed with two bottles of their very first offerings.
We sampled, discussed and enjoyed what even in the early days was whiskey like none other I've ever tasted, certainly not this side of the pond. So, I knew I was in for a treat given their previous exceptional, award-winning expressions.
Today, I'll be giving you my humble thoughts on their single barrel, cask strength rye whiskey, distilled in Canada, and finished in a PX sherry butt. Composed of 66% rye, 30% corn, and 4% barley, bottled at 58.9% abv (117.8 proof), non-chill filtered and colouring free.
Colour: Golden strew
Nose: Buttery croissants coated with cherry jam, spicy flavors then delivering hints of nutmeg and light touches of vanilla, delightfully well balanced.
Palate: Exceptional, thick chewable mouthfeel, chocolate orange covered in a red fruits syrup, gently introducing the rye spice influence, nutmeg, cinnamon and a little vanilla oak.
Finish: Medium/long, spicy chai latte with the ever-present gentle rye spice.
"Ay Chihuahua Caramba," this is so good!
On my last visit home to London, I was able to squirrel away some samples for my London based whisky lovers, of their pervious expressions which were a resounding success, as I knew they would be.
This goes to show that both Nick and Zach Taylor's passion for whisky would shine through their expressions, as they understand the process and are able to select amazing casks from their available stocks, which consistently results in numerous whisky awards, and rightly so!
SlĂ inte mhath!
