Ardbeg
Like so many I'm a self-confessed peat head, Ardbeg being a firm favorite of mine for some time now. But as I stopped by my local liquor store recently to collect the new Ardbeg Heavy Vapours, I got to thinking are these bottles worth the premium for which we are paying.
Yes, I enjoy the yearly treasure hunt trying like so many to procure a bottle of the committee release, feeling elated at having done so, only to feel a little disappointed once I kicked back and popped the cork.
Some of the recent releases have certainly been better than others - the 19-year-old being one that I think merits it's premium price tag. In all honesty, I'll keep hunting these elusive bottles until they become cost prohibitive, hopefully they won't go the same way as some other notable whiskies (Springbank being one of them), after all whiskies are meant to be enjoyed by all, regardless of social standing, certainly not flipped, although I have no problem with collecting to be enjoyed at a later date.
In the meantime, I'll enjoy my recent purchases and will continue to drink Ardbeg's core range Uigeadail and the 10-year-old, which for me are still hard to beat at the price range.
SlĂ inte mhath!
